HW3

For homework 3 I made a level that was subsequently redone but I contributed level ideas as well as sounds and textures to the overall game.

Final Project

For the final project, I worked with Jeremy Patton and Eric Cina. We met on Wednesdays. We decided to make a movie depicting a space battle. After some discussion, I drew out the storyboard and from there we divided scenes amongst ourselves to animate. I animated scenes of the pilots, but after final rendering, it was decided that they didn't look quite right and so they were redone.
After that I wrote the script out for the movie and then found all but one of the sound effects needed for the movie. I also asked my friend Andrew to compose some music for us and worked with him to get the feeling just right.
During editing I did all of the sound editing, including score, as well as did the subtitles and the title and credits. Sound editing was somewhat of a chore, given all of the sound effects and how perfectly they had to be timed. Eric helped me out a lot with the editing and Jeremy came to give his opinions too. Editing took around 4 hours.
We titled it Wrath of the Erinyes, which are mythological Greek creatures that are also known as Furies. The title is in reference to the enemy ships that appear, as they come seeking revenge on Earth's ships.
I hope that this project is well received because we worked hard on it.

Belated Blogging On Movie

Ok well this is far after completion, forgive me for the long pause in blogging.
After I rigged the dog, Alex and I decided that it was too complex, so together we revised the rigging.
Alex went on to make some animations while I took on the task of creating a landscape and creating all of the textures. I decided that I wanted to make a volcanic landscape. I went to cgtextures.com and found a cracked earth texture that I modified in paint.net to get the color I was looking for. I originally wanted to have a volcano, but later decided that it would distract the viewers from the action in the foreground so made a mountain instead. I followed Jeremy's tutorial for the ground because I liked his mountain ranges.
Then I decided that I wanted the lighting to be a reddish color, to reflect the volcanic idea I originally had. I used http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/Faked_Gi_with_Blender_internal which was very successful.
I textured the sword wielding man in much the same manner as I did the dog.
I obtained music and sound effects from free license websites and then I set to work on editing the movie in Windows Movie Maker, which was somewhat of a chore.
We are proud of our final project.

First Day of Blogging

Alright well I've already started my homework but as of yet have forgotten to blog so here it is.
I am working on a short movie with Alex Okonechnikov. My part of the movie was to make a foe for his sword wielding man. I decided to make Cerberus. To model the dog, I selected pictures of a Great Dane and followed the suggestion of the TAs to being with a plane and then use the loop cut tool. I combined the using a background image and extruding once I'd made an outline. After moving around my model was successfully made and then I moved onto rigging.
More in the next post.
